| Will or Probate | A copy of Catherine FINNIGAN’s will dated 25th February 1901 is available from the State Records Office (SRO Cons 3403/1901/053) she is described as a widow despite Thomas not dying until 1907. Catherine Finnigan’s will dated 25 February 1901 whereby ‘I give, devise and bequeath unto my two unmarried daughters Elizabeth Born Fermoy, Co Cork, Ireland on 20 July 1863 and Ellen born Perth, Western Australia on 10 October 1867 the whole of all my real and personal estate consisting of allotment No 8 with house and appurtenances thereon at No 45 Tuckfield Street. East Fremantle for their sole use and benefit. The estate was worth £475.00 |

Apparently he had served under Governor Hampton when they were in the army, (68th Regt). 29 June 1895 Thomas Finnigan wrote to the Honourable John Forrest, Premier of WA stating that he had served as Orderly and Office keeper at Government House for 15 years and as he was aged seventy three felt that he was unfit for further service and tendered his resignation. Octavius Burt requested the Private Secretary to advise Sergeant Finnigan that a pension of £32.10.0 had been granted to him with the request he remain in office until a suitable replacement was found- to which Finnigan agreed. He had been employed in the position since January 1880 at a salary of £130 for the last three years. (SROWA Cons 527/1895/1677) In 1893-4 The Post Office directories have him living in Jackson Street in North Fremantle but from 1901 he lived at 45 Tuckfield Street in Fremantle (corner of Skinner Street) where his single daughters Elizabeth and Ellen lived until their deaths. In 1895 Thomas and Catherine left Western Australia on the Bullara departing 5th April 1895 for the Eastern States. West Australian 5th April 1895 page 4 Thomas returned in May on the Konoowarra.
