Further Information | British Army Worldwide Index 1841 James Thacker 1000(sic) Private 1st regt 2nd batt location London Canada 1851 James Thacker 1100 Private 1st regt 2nd batt location Fermoy Discharge due to being worn out by length of service and climate, subject to Phthisis Pulmonatis 7 January 1882 the Staff Officer of Pensioners MS Smith asked if James Thacker still wished to join the Enrolled Guard as there was a vacancy. 9 January 1882. Sgt Major McCarthy Enrolled Pensioner Barracks Fremantle sent Private B. McGrath to Rockingham to ascertain if Thacker was still agreeable. Thacker agreed to join the guard that day as there was no need for him to give notice. As a single man Thacker could stay in Quarters with Corporal Ryan and B. McGrath. Corporal McGrath borrowed a horse and volunteered to go out to see Thacker. 10 January 1882 MS Smith recommended James Thacker be appointed private on the Enrolled Guard vice Private Michael Barry who was dismissed. 20 January 1882 MS Smith made a further inquiry if Private Thacker, who he believed understood looking after horses, would suit him in place of Connolly? I wanted a man to look after horse and phaeton – to cut wood, clean boots and knives. Brush clothes, water flowers and make himself generally useful. SROWA Cons 144 |
