Further Information5th November 1844 Tried and sentenced to 4 lunar months imprisonment and marked with a D for desertion. The first 3 years 247 days army service were not counted towards his pension nor were the three years from when he deserted in 1841- to when he re-joined 31st October 1844. Service dated from 24th February 1845.

Served in the Mooltan campaign of 1848. Gun-shot wound received 7th November 1848 in left lung-‘the ball being lodged impairs the respiratory function as to render him unfit for further military service.’
James Hunt was admitted to the (Royal) Hospital Adelaide on 29th September 1882. At the time he was a single man, aged 61, Roman Catholic and living and working as a shepherd at Dry Creek Station. He had been born in Limerick and had arrived in South Australia by an unnamed steamer; he had been 21 years in the Colony.
