Andrew had been living with William Johnson and his wife at North Fremantle when for an unknown reason Johnston shot him in the back, prior to the shooting they had mostly been on friendly terms. At the trial it was thought it may have been when he was cleaning his gun but that theory was discounted. Freely admitting his guilt Johnston was found not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 6 years penal servitude – see newspaper article on this page. |
