John deserted the EF and went to the Eastern States in an effort to obtain work leaving his wife Sarah and their children living at North Fremantle. In due course Lt Col Bruce advised her she would have to leave the village, she wrote to him and said that in the 3 years they had occupied the cottage they had made changes amounting to £42/12/10 and requested to be reimbursed for the said amount. The Governor (Hampton) said as her husband had violated the condition under which he had obtained the cottage she was not entitled to receive any money outlaid. |

Further Information | Discharge due to a hernia 14th April 1850 Daughter Sarah received medical treatment aboard the Scindian After the arrival of the Scindian at Fremantle Captain Henderson wrote a report listing the rank name, trade or calling, rate of pension, date of enlistment for 5 months service, marital status, and number of children for each pensioner. Sometimes the trade of calling differed from that recorded at the time of attestation: Private John O’Connor, general labourer, 9d, 17th January, married 2 children. Wife Sarah and 3 children left Western Australia on 1st November 1855 per Vivid for Adelaide. |
