In the 1851 Census of England William is a single man living with his parents John White age 73, a pauper former servant born Chiveley Berkshire, his mother Ann age 62, a cook, born Arrington Cambridge and sister Maryann age 17 a dress maker born Bath Somerset, while William is age 30, a labourer/Chelsea pensioner born Bath Somerset.
WO23/56 shows Adelaide as residence in 1865. Believe this to be a transcription error. There isn’t any indication that this man went to Adelaide South Australia.
William White served in campaigns of 1845 and 1846 with the Army of the Sutledge (sic). Present at the battle of Sobraon 10th February 1846 and occupation of Lahore also the campaign of 1848/49 including the whole of the siege of operations against Moodkee affair of the 9th September storming the enemy strongly entrenched position 12th September 1849 and carrying the heights 27th December 1848 and surrender of the fortress 22nd January 1849 battle of Goojerat. Wounded by grapeshot at Goojerat. This suggests he had medals for these actions.
