Further Information | Bryan Tully was present at the Action of Clinhat 30th June 1857 Defence of Lucknow 30th June 1857-22nd November 1857 Battle of Cawnpore 6th December 1857 Action of Doudpore 20th October 1858 Discharge due to gunshot wound of the left shoulder 12th August 1857 at Lucknow and chronic dysentery Applying for a job with the Convict Service Bryan Tully declared under Oath he was born 21st March 1832. When Bryan Tully married Mary Ann Courtney he used the name Michael Farrelly his parents being Philip and Elizabeth Farrelly which must have been his baptismal name. For some unknown reason he enlisted in the British army as Bryan Tully and that is how he is known in any military document. When he came to Western Australia he had his children baptised as either Tully or Farrelly or both. They used the name Tully throughout their lives. He also used the Michael as his Christian name intermittedly. 21st January 1872 Pension suspended for 84 days for desertion from the Enrolled Force 28th June 1872 James Morrison, expiree charged with violently and unlawfully assaulting Bryan Tully at the Crown and Anchor hotel 3 July 1872 Bryan Tully was admitted to the Military Hospital in a dangerous state. 1873 Bryan Tully petitioned the Governor for a pension or gratuity detailing a head injury he received in the course of his duty as a warder when assisting a Water Police constable. Governor Weld replied he had forfeited all claims to a pension or gratuity when he deserted the Enrolled Force 14th November 1874 Convicted Geraldton of not fulfilling engagement to work in the Geraldine mine – sent to prison for 3 months -suspended 7th April 1875 Imprisoned for 3 months for obtaining money under false pretences – pension suspended 20th July 1875 Pension to be paid to wife and family during the 6 months imprisonment and on release to be struck off the pension list 16 February 1886 Pension restored at the original 6d per day rate Michael Bryan Tulley (sic) died from a fractured skull after being hit by a buggy driven on the wrong side of the road – South Terrace near Howard Street, South Fremantle. Inquest found it a case of accidental death. |
