In 1878 William Tonry was charged with being drunk in a public place and using indecent language and fined 20 shillings or one week in gaol.
William Tonry was admitted twice to the (Royal) Adelaide hospital, firstly on 29th December 1874. His record said he was 48 years of age, a widower, Roman Catholic, residing at Unley, born Roscommon and had been 16 years in the Colony and had arrived on the Gem.
The second time on 8th July 1887 he was age 60, a widower, a Roman Catholic and a labourer. By this time he was living at Virginia and had been born Ireland and had been 22 years in the Colony and once more he had arrived on the Gem.
The National Archives Transfer of Pensioner entry said he was paid in South Australia 1868 to 1870, paid Melbourne 1870 to December 1874 when he transferred to Narracoote SA where he died 18th March 1874, however, the Adelaide hospital entries were dated December 1874 and July 1887. The National Archives also said he was a single man when his hospital admissions say he was a widower. No death in South Australia has been found.
