Robert Sly was treated for catarrh during the voyage of the William Hammond
Robert Sly was one of the pensioners on the William Hammond from whom Captain Foss misappropriated money to the value of £8/14/6
In 1857 ten of the William Hammond’s pensioner guards claimed good conduct pay for 27 days service, one of whom was Private Robert Sly.
1858 Census of York Robert Sly was a married man age 41, a pensioner, arrived William Hammond in 1856 Protestant, born Ireland, married Ireland.
His wife Mary was aged 48, a Roman Catholic, arrived 1856 William Hammond, born and married Ireland.
Daughter Bridget was age 18 a single woman, RC, born Ireland had also arrived in 1856 on the William Hammond. Robert said he had 3 ½ acres of land and kept 4 head of cattle and 3 goats. The form was filled in by Bridget.
