Discharge due to rupture on right side (Hernia)
In the 1851 Census (HO 107/2268/624/48) Lancashire Corporal John Odgers, age 29, born St. Clements, Devon is with his regiment living at the Fulwood Barracks, Preston, as is his wife Norah, age 23, and children William age 2 and Thomas age 11 months, all born Ireland
On 25th January 1861 John Odgers nominated his sister-in-law Mary Lynch as a Government immigrant, she was a single woman age 22 years living at No 5 Thompson Terrace Bristol at the time.
Charles Odgers was admitted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital on 13 October 1893 age 29, he was a single man RC and living at Hindmarsh a labourer born Western Australia
Elizabeth was also admitted to the hospital on 26 March 1879 age 21, single , RC, living Archer Street occupation servant born Western Australia and had arrived on the Otway 8 months previously see Inquirer and Commercial News Wednesday 31 July 1878 page 2 Otway passenger Miss Odgers
Henry Odgers was admitted on 6 February 1884 age 27, married RC was living at Hindmarsh and a labourer. He said he was born at Dartmoor and had been in the Colony for 26 years and arrived on the Clara.
A newspaper article on the Golden wedding anniversary of John and Honora (Chronicle 15th August 1896) stated he was born 2nd December 1829 at Truro Cornwall. Erroneously it also said John Odgers was with the 19th regiment and had fought in the Crimean war however our research shows he was in the 85th Regiment throughout his military career, furthermore, it also said he was employed by the Convict establishment whereas we have no record of him ever being employed as a warder although his son John age 25 applied for a position in either the police force or as a warder on 8th February 1878, employed as an assistant warder at Rottnest. All the later newspaper articles used this article as a source for their information.
John Odgers (Jnr) and his second wife Norah Moulan were involved in a tragic murder suicide in East Perth Western Australia extensive newspaper coverage.
