In the 1851 Census the family of James O’Byrne is indexed under “Byrne”, they are living at Rocket Court St. Helier Jersey
James age 44 is a pensioner of the 51st regiment born Claremorris, Ireland, his wife Nicoleta (sic) is aged 35 and daughter Mary were born Corfu and were a British Subjects. Daughter Helena (Ellen) is age 7 and was born at sea off Sydney NSW, Ann age 5 was born at Hobart town and Cematin (sic) age 2 was born at St. Helier’s Jersey.
The West Australian Friday 30th August 1918 reported James Dominic O’Byrne late of South Fremantle bequeathed to Bridget Selina Freeman £63/10/-
Daughter Ann O’Burn (sic) was admitted to the (Royal) Adelaide Hospital on 25th October 1864 age 29, she was living at North Adelaide and said she had been born in Hobarton Van Dieman’s land and had been 3 years in the Colony.
Her name is on the passenger list for the schooner Gem departing Fremantle 22nd October 1862.
“O’Byrne ” is reported the only way that James signed his name. The name of James wife is Nicoletta Salustri and there is a street named after her in the Rocky Bay estate in North Fremantle. She is documented as being the first Italian woman in Western Australia
