John Nicholls and his wife Left Western Australia with his regiment on the Java February 1847 for service in India. Fifteen years later after being pensioned off he returned to Western Australia as a Pensioner guard with his family on the “Lincelles”

Further InformationWO97 doesn’t state had service in Western Australia although WO12/6203 1841 Muster states stationed in Swan River Perth.
2 detachments from the 51st regiment arrived at the Swan River Colony on 25th June 1840 from Hobart to relieve the 21st regiment; in February 1847 they re-joined their regiment and left Fremantle per Java for Calcutta.
In the 1861 Census the family is living at High Street in Little Eversden with John working as an agricultural labourer.
