Further Information | British Army, Worldwide Index 1841 John Nicholls 1089 detachment location Swan River 1851 John Nicholls 1089 location Madras Discharge: Reduction in the Army. Suffering from an inguinal hernia to right side and impaired health and strength. WO97 doesn’t state had service in Western Australia although WO12/6203 1841 Muster states stationed in Swan River Perth. 2 detachments from the 51st regiment arrived at the Swan River Colony on 25th June 1840 from Hobart to relieve the 21st regiment; in February 1847 they re-joined their regiment and left Fremantle per Java for Calcutta. In the 1861 Census the family is living at High Street in Little Eversden Cambridgeshire with John working as an agricultural labourer. Ann, his wife is age 33 and was born at Whiptoft(sic) Leicestershire. Daughter Lydia age 13 was born at Bangalore East Indies, son William age 5 was born Manchester, Lancashire and baby Emily born Little Eversden is 6 months of age. |
