Further Information | Discharge due to amputation of middle finger of right hand after gunshot wound. On 20th May 1871 the Fremantle police reported that a boy the son of a pensioner named Meade of about 9 years of age was seriously injured when a triangle fell on his head at the south jetty. He was not expected to survive. It appears to be John Meade however he is mentioned in his mother’s obituary in 1908. On 28th December 1882 Thomas Meade was sentenced to 3 months imprisonment with hard labour for assaulting his wife. Half his pension was suspended and half to be paid to his wife during his imprisonment. In the obituary for Bridget Meade it stated her daughter Mrs J Meadows and grandson Mervyn Meadows were present at the funeral. Mervyn was born Carlton Victoria to John Meadows and Mary Mead (sic) 1899 Mervyn enlisted in WW1 and died of wounds received in action 16th October 1917. There was another daughter mentioned in the Obituary Miss Johanna Mead of whom there is no birth record is again mentioned in her brother James’s administration papers. Son James Patrick Mead well sinker of Mooloo Down Station Gasgoine died in Carnarvon on 17th February 1910 intestate and no one applied for Letters of Administration and although his estate was originally estimated as £25 a search was held for his next-of-kin which were listed as sisters Mary Meadows (38) of 72 Dyer Street West Perth married woman. Johanna Mead (34)of Carnarvon, Spinster, Bridget Fannon (40) married woman of Kirrup and brother John James Mead (46) woodcutter of the Barracks St. Georges terrace Perth – (this may be the child we have as John Francis). Eventually his estate consisted of assets of £41/6/11 and debts of £41/6/11. SROWA Cons 5790/1910/048 |
