Further Information | Discharge due to ‘lameness of left leg from a fracture of two bones about two inches above the ankle the result of a fall from No 2 tower when in the act of closing the window shutters he also fractured his chin. He was perfectly sober’. In the 1851 HO 107/2227 Census James Martin a widower is living at Gaythorne Place Deansgate Manchester England with his family of six children from his first marriage In the 1859 Census of York Western Australia (SROWA Cons 101/092) James Martin age 50 is living with his second wife Elizabeth age 25 and children James aged 17 and William aged 13 from his first marriage both boys said they were born in England whereas the 1851 Census said Ireland. Son George aged 1 year 6 months born Australia the child of his second marriage. James could read and write. Of the 4 acres allotment all was under hay or green crop and he had 1 acre of kitchen garden and had 2 head of cattle. |
