Further Information1842 – Gunshot wound to right foot while forcing the Khyber Pass and again left cheek at Ferozeshah. Took part in Afghanistan campaign 1842 and served with Army of the Sutlej in 1845-6. Was present at the battles of Moodkee, Ferozeshah and Sobraon.

Discharge was due to chronic rheumatism and general constitutional derangement contracted in India
Robert Hulme was one of the five pensioners who joined the Mermaid at Portsmouth just prior to sailing because the strength of the Convict guard had been depleted when two families were sent ashore because their children had measles and another had died. At the time he was a single man.
19th February 1853 – Charged with gross negligence of duty. Struck off the duty detachment and loss of pension for 2 months.
