Further Information | British Army Worldwide index 1851 Denis Hagan 2277 Private 97th foot location New Brunswick Discharge caused by severe gunshot wound to the right forearm received 12th June 1855 in the trenches (Sebastopol) His WO97 gives the following information: Landed Malta 24th December 1846 Landed North America 9th September 1848 Returned to England 19th May 1853 Landed in Greece 5th June 1854 Landed Crimea 20th November 1854 Returned to England- no entry In 1873 Denis Hagan reported he had erected his cottage to roof high and requested the grant of £15. The measurements of the cottage were 33 feet x 30 feet x 15 feet. SROWA Cons 36 CSR Vol 745 Folio 200 Denis Hagan’s name was on the Nominal list for the Enrolled Guard 1880 but he does not appear to have been chosen Erickson considers that Denis and Ann Hagan may have had another 7 children who died in their infancy(!) Denis Hagan is recorded as being a Corporal at Sebastopol in the Crimean War Casualties list: He was also appointed Corporal for the voyage of the Corona to WA in 1866 In a Letter to the Editor dated 26th June 1872 Northam FAIR PLAY quoted the case of Pensioner Denis Hagan being the dupe in a case of stolen good by a man named Jones. Jones was sentenced to 6 month imprisonment while Hagan was acquitted. |
