Further Information | British Army Worldwide index 1841 James Gorman 1201 Private 13th Foot location On route to join at time of muster Cabul Afghanistan 1851 Corporal James Gorman 1301 13th Foot location Stirling Scotland and Manchester Discharged from service at Chatham due to varicose veins in both legs which first appeared on the Retreat from Cabul in 1842Upon arrival West Aust. Employed by Convict Establishment without sanction of Staff Officer Pensions. Feb 1855 correspondence with War Office – refused further pension which ceased 4/3/1855, same day employed as Special Constable Albany, awarded deferred pension of 4d. Following Gorman’s death his widow (Ellen) corresponded with War Office in 1883 requesting assistance – reply ‘no funds’. He employed 2 T/L men 1871 – 1872 Albany 1883 widow corresponded (unsuccessfully) with War Office asking for assistance |
