Further Information | Discharge due to a gunshot wound to his left hip received in the trenches at Sebastopol –unfit for service. John disappears from our records 1879 although there is a death for a John Egan at Milang Strathalbyn on 26 September 1882 age 54. John Egan, a single man, had married Ellen Dellehay nee Eckar/Ekan at St. Patrick’s church Adelaide on 7th October 1869. They had 2 sons Thomas born Milang 9th September 1870 and William John born 7th November 1873. William John married Alice Maria McBeth/Beath on 25th February 1897; he died at Hindmarsh Island Adelaide on 13th March 1921. Thomas died 28th May 1948 at Meningie Pinnaroo South Australia. Ellen Egan age 63 was admitted to the (Royal) Adelaide Hospital on 6th September 1898. At the time she was a widow living at Milang although she had been born in Ireland and had lived in the Colony for 30 years having arrived on the Lord Raglan. Ellen died died 8 April 1903 also at Milang |
