Note on page 1 of WO 97 David turned 50 on 27 May 1870 (possibly eligible for a Deferred Pension.)In the 1851 census HO 107/1591/316/17 David is living with his widowed mother Ann and his brother Edwin.
In 1867 Mrs Ditch and her daughter returned to England leaving David working at Fremantle prison.In the 1871 Census Mary Ann Ditch and her daughters Elizabeth, Mary Ann and Rosina are lodging at the home of the widowed Harriett Ditch at Hanover Street Lewisham Kent.
David is not with them as he is still working at Fremantle prison.By the time of the 1881 census he has resigned from Frematle Prison and joined the family in England where he Mary Ann and 2 of their daughters Elizabeth and Mary Ann are living at 3 Drysdale Road Lewisham Kent.
