1841 Daniel Davis 1172 Private 40th Foot location Quettah BombayDischarge 30th October 1848 due to a wound in the right thigh at the battle of Maharajpoor by a gunshot “The ball was lodged at the time and was many months in hospital and he was sent home having done no duty; In 1846 the ball was removed at Chatham and the fascia lata divided. The support being lost to the muscles when in action prevents him marching and when he attempts to do so cause edema of the extremity. He also fracture of the clavicle in 1846 off duty”.
Discharge 14th April 1857 due to dyspepsia and continuing problems with former injuries
In the 1851 Census HO 109/1948/204/30 Daniel and his wife Jane are living at 5 Duck Lane Bristol. Daniel is age 30 working as a paper maker born Monmouthshire while Jane is age 26 a laundress born Bristol, there are no children listed.
