Warder – listed as “Warder” on Stanley’s baptism record in 1864
Employed by the Convict Establishment from 26 February 1861 as assistant warder until his death 20th April 1864
His widow Sarah was employed as an Assistant matron at the lunatic asylum from 1 July 1864 until she resigned May 1873 prior to her 2nd marriage. She said she had 3 children to support. See Barker page 47 extensive articles

“Served in the Gwalior Campaign 1843 present at the battle Punniar 29th December 1843. Also in the Sutledge Campaign in 1843 and was present at the battle of Sobraon on the 10th February 1846. Also in the Punjaub Campaign in 1848-9 present at the passage of the Chenab 4 December 1848 and at the battled of Chillianwalla 23 January 1849 and Goojerat 20th February 1849”

Listed as “Corporal of Pensioners” at time of Lucy’s baptism (18th September 1859 – this would have been a local ranking)
