John Callenan (sic) 193 Private 5th Dragoons Location Manchester and Cahir
Discharge due to general debility and chronic rheumatism
1853 wife Eliza signed a memorial to the Surgeon Superintendent of the Robert Small.
John Callanan, age 35, and his wife Eliza age 30 together with their daughters Eliza age 5 and Maria age 12 departed Melbourne Victoria for Hobart of the ship Tasmania in March 1856. Apparently they did not find Hobart to their liking for they returned to Melbourne on 5th May 1856 in the ship City of Hobart. John has aged 10 years as he said his age was 45 and his occupation was ‘groom.’
John seems to have left Melbourne for London alone in February1876 on the ship Norfolk although his wife was still alive when he died.
