Further Information | British Army Worldwide Index 1841 John Butchart 437 Private 79th Foot location Gibraltar Discharge due to chronic rheumatism pains in chest and back.In the 1851 Census John Butchert(sic) is living at Horse Water Wynd, Liff, Scouringburn (North Side) Forfarshire Scotland with his wife Fanny born 1806 Ireland and children:
The rations issued to the Pensioners wives and families during the voyage are free of any charge with the exception of the Pensioner named on the margin (Jno Butchart 75ft (sic) 1/-), who is to pay by stoppage from his pension for the rations, at the rate of 6d per rations for one child and 3d per ration for another. Extract from AJCP Reel 1301 piece 285 pages 233-8 Purchased Fremantle Lots 628 and 629 acreage unknown for £6.0.0 per lot 5th October 1864 23 July 1866. PETER MILLARD, pensioner with stealing from the dwelling house of the said JOHN BUTCHART on the 19th inst and taken 2 sovereigns, remanded.24 July Remanded Peter Millard, pensioner charged by John Butchart sentenced to 6 months imprisonment. Much of the information in sons David’s account of the early life of John was inaccurate and it is highly improbable he was born in 1792 as he would have been too old to be recruited into the army in 1825. |
