Newspaper accounts often refer to this man as “General” Bonner. He was a heavy drinker but appeared to become a teetotaller in the 1870s.
Between January 1882 and March 1883 Cork Pension district show him as an in-patient Cork Asylum. Some information Discharge document records John applied to the WO for an increase in Pension in 1878, however, it appears it was not granted as all documents in Cork to March 1883 still show pension at 6d per diem.
14th May 1884 Thomas Samuel Bonner, Police constable, applied for letters of administration for the estate of John Joseph Bonner who had died intestate 26th April 1884 Bannister WA.
