Further Information | There were 2 John Barrons in Western Australia, John Joseph was born in 1833 the son of Sergt Edward Barron 63rd Regiment who had arrived on the Sulphur, this man was a police officer and married Eliza Gallagher he died 24 March 1898. The John Barron on the Phoebe Dunbar appears to not have been married and did not receive an allotment. John Barron present at the battle of Sobraon in 1845 also the campaign of 1848-1849 including the whole of the siege operation against Mooltan, carrying the heights before Mooltan 27 December 1848, surrender of the fort Mooltan 22 January 1849, battle of Goojerat 21 July 1849 British Army Worldwide Index 1841 John Barron 754 58th Foot Location Glasgow and Edinburgh 1851 John Barron 1647-58th 754 Private 10th Regt location Wazirabad Pakistan Discharge due to intermitted fever and worn out. John Barron received medical treatment aboard the Phoebe Dunbar on August 29th and again on 17th September 1853 for stricture, he was sent to the hospital after the ship’s arrival. SROWA Cons 430 1883/0456 Report of Corporal William H. Osborne 20th July 1883 regarding pensioner John Barron found in a dying and destitute state on the Fremantle road near Peel House about 20 miles distant from Pinjarra. He was taken by cart to Chester Public House where he died overnight. Proceeded to Fremantle with the body and informed the Coroner who decided an autopsy was not necessary. Died of exhaustion 15th/16th July 1883. |
