| Further Information | British army Worldwide Index 1841 Kilner Gregory 541 Private 78th foot location Burnley and Manchester Discharge due to remittent and intermitted fever 1841 Census HO 107/535/9/50/2 Military Barracks Bolton-Le-Moors Bolton Lancashire Kilner Gregory is living at the Military Barracks but his wife is not with him. Both Kilner and his wife received medical treatment during the voyage of the Pyrenees, Kilner was on the sick list for 3 days suffering from intermitted fever and Mrs Gregory for 6 days There is a child Michael recorded as being member of first family on Bishop Salvado’s Census in 1854 Albany. No other information available on this child. Extract from report by Captain Bruce to the Governor dated 9 September 1854: On the 28th august I came in sight of Albany passing about a mile and a half from the town allotments marked out for Pensioners. The men marked in the margin (John Wild, Patrick White, M. Fitzgerald, and K. Gregory) have made considerable progress in clearing their land and they have together erected for themselves cottages. I therefore recommend each of them for the sum of £15 – a fifth man Private Booth, has likewise done much, considering the comparative short time he has been there. He has cleared a large patch of his land and put up the framework of his cottage. I consequently recommend the issue to him also of £15. The land allotted to these men is very inferior to the soil of Kojonup. I hope considering their proximity to the port of Albany, they will be enabled to obtain for themselves a livelihood. The other Pensioners in this district, 10 in number, have been deterred from taking land by the difficulties of clearing and putting up dwellings for themselves. SROWA CONS 36 Volume 303 Folio 118 |
