John Clarke is a soldier of the 72nd regiment born Scotland
John Clarke died 3rd March 1854 of consumption while at sea on the SS Sydney. The amount of money owing to him at his death was £42/6/8 which indicates he was employed on the ship but as he did not have a registration (seaman’s) number it looks as if he was employed as a cook or something similar. The money was sent to the Board of Trade to dispose of.
