Michael O’Loughlin and fellow pensioner and comrade at arms James Quinn were both born at Kilmanahan (Kilmanaheen) County Clare in 1820/1. Both young men enlisted in the 88th regiment on 4th September 1839 at Ennistymon. They both served for 21 years 277 days (James was calculated as 167 days as he had a period of imprisonment but they both went to pension at Colchester 25th June 1861. There was a period in 1851 when Michael was at Bury, Lancashire and James was at Halifax, Nova Scotia and James served in the Crimea while Michael did not. |
