He said he had been in the Enrolled force under Colonel Bruce and Major Crampton. He again wrote on 27th January 1888, this time to the Colonial Treasurer requesting quarters in the Barracks repeating the personal information. Malcolm Fraser wrote to Sergeant Major McCarthy saying if he found pensioner Rubery’s circumstances warranted it to allow him accommodation in the barracks with the understanding it was of a temporary nature until the barracks were otherwise required. 1891 Pensioner Rubery and four children occupied two rooms In the Fremantle Barracks. Peter Rubery aged twenty-one and Michael aged eighteen are employed, John is aged sixteen, and the fourteen year old Catherine is also employed 1899 Michael is living in 4 rooms at the Fremantle Barracks with daughter Mary E aged 31, Peter aged 29. Michael aged 27 and John aged 25. 25th June 1897 entertained at banquet for Enrolled Force survivors in St George’s Hall February 1900 attended fete at Fremantle Oval |
