Further InformationDischarge due to loss of power and wasting of right forearm due to gunshot wound in the trenches on 10th February (1855)
‘Gunshot wound through the right forearm. Ball having grazed and injured the ulna at its middle – passed downwards and forwards between it and the radius and escaped in front- hand weak and tremulous – but likely to improve.’
The possible marriage gives a different father (Laurence) to the baptism but John Farrell was in Liverpool in January of 1857. (WO22). The birth of a child Laurence in 1867 rather reinforces this as being our John Farrell.
On 16th May 1872 Mary Ann and Eliza Farrell were admitted to the Roman Catholic Orphanage. Mary Ann was age 7 and Eliza age 5. Mary Ann was released on 18th November 1876 and Eliza 31st August 1875, both to their mother.
Ann Farrell (widow) married Pensioner William John Smith ( 50th Foot Sultana) at Fremantle 1872 however on 9th August 1872 he was charged with bigamy as at the time of his marriage to Ann his wife Caroline formerly Beckett was still alive and living at York WA. He was sentenced to 6 months prison and shortly afterwards moved to Victoria
Mary Ann was divorced from Frederick in April 1901, although there was confusion over the decree nisi not finalised 1922) so there are two registrations for the death of Mary Ann, one under the names Farrell and one under Woollams, both have the same registration number.
