A newspaper article on the Golden wedding anniversary of John and Honora (Chronicle 15th August 1896) stated he was born 2nd December 1829 at Truro Cornwall. Erroneously it also said John Odgers was with the 19th regiment and had fought in the Crimean war however our research shows he was in the 85th Regiment throughout his military career, furthermore, it also said he was employed by the Convict establishment whereas we have no record of him ever being employed as a warder although his son John age 25 applied for a position in either the police force or as a warder on 8th February 1878, employed as an assistant warder at Rottnest. All the later newspaper articles used this article as a source for their information. John Odgers (Jnr) and his second wife Norah Moulan were involved in a tragic murder suicide in East Perth Western Australia extensive newspaper coverage. |
