1841 Henry Cook, 691, 35th Regt, location Depot, Portsmouth
1851 Census Henry Cook a married man is a warder age 34 on the Convict hulk Hebe and Rye born Chelsea Middlesex.
His wife Margaret age 35, born Ireland and his daughter Maria age 3 born Woolwich, Kent are living at 8, Burrage Road, Plumstead, Lewisham, London & Kent, England. Margaret is rather bizarrely described as ‘servant’s wife RA’.
Henry Cook was one of eight warders sent to Western Australia aboard the sailing ship Esmeralda in 1854.
Although Henry Cook was not an Enrolled Convict Guard he was admitted to the Enrolled Guard on 21st April 1885 serving until the disbandment in March 1887.
After his wife Margaret Cook died in 1876 age 60 (B 1816) Henry married for a second time to Johanna PORTER. Johanna PORTER nee McGRATH had first married EPG John JOYCE of the 37th regiment (arrived Robert Small), after his death she married EPG Henry Porter (arrived Hougoumont) and after his death in 1876 she married Henry COOK (warder)
1881 Henry Cook’s wife applied for quarters in the Barracks (granted) and in 1882 when a census of the persons living in the barracks was made Henry is recorded as living there with 2 daughters. (One of the daughters is probably the daughter of Johanna.)
