| Further Information | British Army Worldwide Index 1841 21st regiment Location Dinapore, Bengal, India Discharge: Worn out from long service On 31st March 1871 Patrick was paid the sum of £12/14/2 as arrears dating back to 13th July 1855 On 12th April 1888 Patrick Lambe wrote to the Governor Sir F.N. Broome requesting a grant of land at Albany. He stated he was 82 years old at the time and quoted his service as a soldier and as a Convict guard on the Adelaide in 1855 as well as working for the convict service for 11 years and 7 months (not recorded in Gaolers and Warders). He had been awarded a land grant which he sold to pay the passage to South Australia to find work as he had a large family to support. He proposed building a house on the Albany block in which to spend his last years. 20th April 1888 The governor replied “the application cannot be entertained” In 1867 Patrick Lamb (sic) was admitted to the Royal Adelaide hospital he was aged 61, Married RC living in North Adelaide and said he arrived in WA on the Adelaide. His son Joseph Patrick was admitted to the (Royal) Adelaide Hospital on nine occasions from 1876 to 1896 he was working as a painter and had arrived in Western Australia on the Adelaide and in South Australia on the Harriett Hope. He said he was born at Calcutta or the East Indies. John Patrick was also admitted to the hospital in 1885 and he was also employed as a painter, he gave his place of birth as East Indies and he had arrived on the Harriett Hope. Thomas was also admitted to the hospital in 1878, working as a labourer and place of birth Kerry- no ship given. Daughter Charlotte also needed treatment on four occasions, she said she was born in WA and arrived in Adelaide on the Rangatira. She was working as a servant. Another daughter Mary (born Western Australia) also had treatment in 1886, she arrived on the Emily Smith in 1876 Mary Roland the wife of James Lambe was the daughter of Lt. Col Bruce’s servant Mary Roland. On 21st May 1857 Bruce nominated Mary Roland age 15 living at Athlone as an emigrant. |
