Further Information | British Army Worldwide Index 1841 John Tobin 751 Private 6th Foot location Bombay Discharge due to debility, suffered a severe gunshot wound to the left leg at Ferozeshah which caused considerable … to the power of the muscle of that limb. 7th January 1853 Prior to sailing the Surgeon Superintendent wrote to the Secretary at War reporting the misconduct of Mrs Tobin wife of one of the guard. The Staff Officer Plymouth was instructed that he was to make further inquiries into all the circumstances and those in her defence before making a decision. If the husband and the family were to land it would involve him in considerable expense. If the wife was landed she would be advanced whatever necessary for paying her passage back to Dublin which would be deducted from her husband’s passage money at the end of the voyage. It must have been resolved as the whole family came to WA but returned to the UK as soon as they were able. John Tobin was charged £6/8/9 for passage money when he left WA. After John’s death Catherine and her children John age 11, Henry age 9. Kate age 5 and Bridget age 10 months entered the South City Asylum (Workhouse) on 24th November 1862 leaving on 6th February 1863. Bridget died 23rd January 1863. |
