| Further Information | British Army Worldwide Index 1841 Robert Gladstone 1731 Private 1st Foot guards 2nd Bn location Quebec Discharge at his own request Robert Gladstone was one of the pensioners assigned to the convict barracks at Port Gregory (Lynton) who along with their families suffered greatly from the inhospitable area they were allocated adjacent to a salt lake. The pensioners were housed in tents and suffered from want of provisions. When Port Gregory was abandoned some of the pensioners chose to settle in Champion Bay and were allocated pensioner lots at Greenough but apparently Robert and family returned to Perth and subsequently moved to the Eastern States. M(rs?) Gladstone and son departed Fremantle 30th January 1857 arriving Adelaide 1st March 1857. Mrs Gladstone, George age 19 and Robert age 12 departed Adelaide 3rd March on the White Swan arriving Melbourne 3rd March 1857 while Robert remained in South Australia Robert Gladstone departed Fremantle 27th June 1857 on the CW Bradley arriving Adelaide July 3rd. Robert had a stoppage of £22/10/- for the repayment of the passage money and received no pension from 1862. |
