| Further Information | British Army Worldwide Index 1841 Richard Ireland 1407 Private 63rd foot location Moulmein 1851 as above location Ashton Under Lyne and Limerick Ireland The Surgeon’s Journal 24 May 1863 entry. The men of the guard were ordered that on arrival at Fremantle they were to appear in proper uniform and present a respectable appearance for the inspection of the Commandant; however Corporal Ireland appeared with a large beard and moustache saying he had a sore throat and inflammation of the lungs which on examination was found not to be the case. He said he wished to leave the Pensioner Guard on arrival in the Colony and agreed to sign a document to that effect. “I, Corporal Richard Ireland certify it is my desire to leave the Pensioner Guard on arrival at Fremantle and do not wish to shave myself.” Signed Richard Ireland Corp Witnesses Thos Bryan Sergt Major & James Crowe Sergt. Probate in the Supreme Court of Victoria (File No. 45/352. VPRS 28/PO Unit 568 & VPRS 28/P2 Unit 309) Richard Ireland died intestate owning 50 shares in the National Bank of Australasia valued at £515 which was eventually paid to those entitled to receive a share however who they were remains a mystery. |
