Further Information | Discharge due to a rupture of the left groin and spitting of blood. 15th March 1851 Mrs Miller was delivered of a still born child aboard the Mermaid, Samuel also received medical treatment during the voyage. Appointed Warder Rottnest 1st January 1857 Warders and Gaolers (David J Barker) page 151 “To be given piece of land as a garden. Wife Matilda appointed cook (CSF 40) 2.1.1857) Alleged Vincent ill treated aboriginal prisoners. Mrs Miller’s conduct found to be improper and disrespectful. Abusive about letting her 5 children run around naked on a Sunday. Both dismissed (Acc 49/41 30.4.1857) arrange passages for Miller and family back to the mainland when a boat next visits (CS/harbour master 22.5.1857).” Inquiry 24.7.1857-both suspended after complaint against Supt Vincent found to be frivolous and vexatious. Miller complained he was not shown his quarters on arrival at Rottnest and generally ignored by Vincent. Overseer of prisoners Dismissed for neglect 4.1.1858.” |
