| Further Information | British Army Worldwide Index 1841 Edward Keaughran Gunner and Driver 5th Battalion RA 3rd Company remarks: on Gozo Location Malta Discharge due to chronic rheumatism: “In October 1835 on board the “Sovereign’ transport, on passage from England to Malta he got a very severe wetting, which was followed by rheumatism of his right knee…” 1851 – Mermaid’s Ships Surgeon log Daughters Margaret age 20. Jane age 6 and Anne age 3 were all treated for Rubeola during the voyage whereas he also lists the children of Edward and Eliza Keaughran as: Margaret 18 years Thomas 10 years Ellen age 6 years Mary age 3 years 4th May 1853 – witness into the conduct of Pensioner Henry GUERIN 9th June 1855 – shown in Military return for pensioners residing North Fremantle as living with his wife and 3 children all were Roman Catholic 14th October 1857 Edward Keaughran reported for guard duty drunk at North Fremantle, when the detail arrived to take him in charge to the guard room at Fremantle he drew a sword and threatened Pensioner McKay and Sergeant Michael O’Bryan saying he would “run the sword through the first man who came near him’. After a violent struggle he was disarmed. He was subsequently struck of the Enrolled Force and his pension suspended for 8 months although Captain Bruce suggested he have his pension halved for 16 months. 25th March 1861-15th August 1861 – Thomas Keaughran (son) was employed as an Assistant warder – dismissed 1865 – Thomas was a police constable in Perth and Champion Bay / Northampton 1873 Balance of Edward’s pension was paid to Mrs DOYLE (not known) possibly in Mauritius |
