Further Information	Discharge due to a fistula of the urethra 18th November 1850 the Staff Officer Liverpool was advised the adult nieces of Owen Connor would not be allowed to proceed with him.(They were also described as sisters in law and may have been Bridget’s sisters) 2nd December 1850 The Staff Officer Liverpool was further advised “In consideration of their father and their brothers having been in the service the Secretary at War has authorised their being provided with a free passage by one of the ships proceeding to Australia or Van Diemen’s Land on the understanding that they bring with them sufficient to fit them out for the voyage and that Owen Connor will pay for their rations during the voyage by a stoppage not exceeding ¼ of his pension.” The rations would amount to about £3 each Captain Bruce was advised of the same. Maria Conroy was aged 14 and Ann 15. Maria married Edward BURKE Fremantle 1857 the son of Mermaid Pensioner Patrick Burke. Maria Burke died Melbourne 1877, her parents were recorded as Elizabeth and John Conroy Surgeon Superintendent Alex Kilroy listed the children of Owen Connor as being Mariah age 8 years and Ann age 5 months 9th June 1855 – Return of Pensioners North Fremantle – Owen protestant, wife and child Catholic. 3rd August 1863 – Owen Connor applied for assistance to the resident magistrate Fremantle and although they were living on his allotment at North Fremantle he had been unable to find work and his wife and 5 children were without the necessities of life and starving. Captain Bruce replied his allotment was overrun with weeds and he had tried to help him with the offer of seed. He said Owen Connor and his wife were able bodied people rendered lazy by his long employment on military service, even so he recommended he be allowed 1/- per day and a flour ration. 5th January 1865 Owen Connor was admitted to the (Royal) Adelaide hospital a married man age 50, he gave his religion as Catholic. At the time he was living Adelaide and was a pensioner having arrived in the Gem 8 months previously. He was again admitted to the hospital on 23rd December 1870 and 14th October 1876 and little had changed except he was living at Currie Street and later at Gouger Street and he gave his occupation as a labourer. He said he was born Galway Ireland in all admissions. His son William was also admitted to the hospital on 24th November 1869 age 17. At the time he was single, Catholic, born Fremantle WA, living Currie street and was working as an ostler. He had arrived in the ship Ramcatra (no ship of this name found and no time given)
