Further Information | Peter English enlisted at age 14 years as a bugler British Army Worldwide Index 1841 Peter English 479, bugler, 2/60th Regt. location at sea Jamaica. 1851 Peter English 479, private, 2/60th regt. location Kilkenny Discharge due to chronic rheumatism and worn out from long service. He was a far from satisfactory soldier having been tried mainly for drunkenness and associated acts many times. Peter English, who was a cripple, and his wife had been living at Thebarton when he wandered from home, his body was later found in scrub a small distance away. On 23rd December 1880 an Inquest was held into his death when the cause of death was found to be from serous apoplexy. On 7th April 1897 Catherine English was admitted to the (Royal) Adelaide hospital age 71 years, she was a widow, Church of England, living at Brompton Park, born Ireland and had been 40 years in the Colony having arrived on the Sultana. She was again admitted to the hospital on 26th March 1898 where she died on 30th March 1898. |
