| Further Information | British Army Worldwide Index 1841 John Nicholson 661 2nd Bn 1st foot location London Canada Discharge due to consumption After the arrival of the Scindian at Fremantle Captain Henderson wrote a report listing the rank name, trade or calling, rate of pension, date of enlistment for 5 months service, marital status, and number of children for each pensioner. Sometimes the trade of calling differed from that recorded at the time of attestation: Private John Nicholson, farm labourer, 6d, 21st January, single 3rd March 1852 Captain Bruce wrote to the Colonial Secretary regarding a request by John Nicholson (1st Ft @6d per diem) for a transfer to Port Philip. Bruce told him he could not recommend a transfer until after the arrival of the next convict ship. Following the guidelines laid down by the War office the Governor said he could not sanction a transfer. 31st March 1852 Captain Bruce again wrote to the Colonial Secretary advising him John Nicholson had left the Colony and requested his dismissal from the Enrolled Force which was approved. |
