Further Information | Discharge due to insanity. Surgeons Log states 13th April 1851 repeatedly bought before Surgeon by Sergeant Major for neglect of duty. It appeared his manner below deck remarkably strange at times. The surgeon on the Pyrenees considered he was insane and he spent 100 days in the ship’s hospital – on arrival at Fremantle he was transferred to Military Hospital Fremantle 15th July 1851.Struck off Pension List 30th June 1856 for non- appearance. Arrears from 1st July 1857 – 30th June 1859 paid after arrival in Melbourne Australia c1859. On the Sydney to Melbourne passenger list for a Felix Redmond it said he was a married man and in the 1859 NSW Gazette it said there was a Lawrence Redmond at the same address so it looks that it is a possibility he was a married man although there was a pensioner named Lawrence Redmond of the 58th Foot who drew his pension at Sydney 1868-1870 and more so the relationship may have been otherwise. Sundry marriages for a Felix in Ireland not an uncommon name. |
