1851 William Yarrdell, 1083, Private, 51st Foot, Location Madras, India. WO12/6213When William Yendall went to inspect the block of land he bought from the Crown in 1863 he found that it did not conform to the measurements quoted and consisted of ‘worthless sand’. Feeling he had been misled he approached Colonel Bruce with the suggestion he be either refunded his money or to have another block which he nominated substituted for the original S60. As the land he suggested was still available the Colonial Secretary and advisors agreed to the substitution and renamed the new land S60. Yendall must have been pleased with the outcome as when he left the Colony he advertised it as being very favourable.Admissions to Royal Adelaide hospital 1840-1905
