1841 James McDonald 499(sic) 30th Foot location Bermuda.
Discharge: Due to a large scrotal hernia
In the 1851 Census the family is living at 90 Canongate Edinburgh. James is age 42 and working as a porter, born Cuthbert Midlothian while his wife Elizabeth is aged 36 and was born Haddington, East Lothian. Their daughter Eliza born 1851 at Canongate Edinburgh.
July 6th 1853 Elizabeth McDonald guards child age 2 years 6 months was treated for diarrhoea on board the Phoebe Dunbar
6th October 1875 Elizabeth McDonald was admitted to the (Royal) Adelaide Hospital age 54, a married woman, Presbyterian, and living at Clare SA. A housewife born Haddington and had been 12 years in the Colony arriving on the Phoebe Dunbar. (She had actually been 19 years in the Colony. It throws up a few questions about the death of James in 1869 in that she said she was married not widowed.)
