Further Information | British Army Worldwide Index 1851 James Jaffray (sic) 2022 Private 92nd Foot location Corfu, Ionian Islands Discharge: Wounded by shell fragment at Sebastopol-unfit for further service. In the 1861 Census of Scotland James Jaffray (sic) age 35, a married man born Paisley Renfrewshire is working as a labourer in printfield and living at Barrhead Quoad Sacra Renfrewshire with his wife Mary B age 30, a dressmaker born Ireland and thier son James age 11 also born Ireland and 2 daughters Susan and Janet age 2 and newborn were both born Barrhead Renfrewshire – There does not appear to be a birth for Susan and the year of birth suggests it was Johanna. (Possibly transcript error) Margaret and Janet are not on the passenger list for the Merchantman and presumably died before 1864. James and Mary Jaffrey were accompanied by their children James, Johanna and Mary on the voyage of the Merchantman, Mary age 19 months died during the voyage and was buried at sea. 21st August 1880 James JAFFREY living in No 2 Barracks Fremantle with 4 children (no wife – previously deceased) |
